The Fourth Angel
And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
Revelation 18:1
"In the annals of human history, the growth of nations, the rise and fall of empires, appear as if dependent on the will and prowess of man; the shaping of events seems, to a great degree, to be determined by his power, ambition, or caprice. But in the word of God the curtain is drawn aside, and we behold, above, behind, and through all the play and counterplay of human interest and power and passions, the agencies of the All-merciful One, silently, patiently working out the counsels of His own will." The prophecies
in the eighteenth of Revelation will soon be fulfilled. During
the proclamation of the third angel's message, "another
angel" is to "come down from heaven, having great power;"
and the earth is to be "lightened with his glory." |
Satan sees that his voluntary rebellion has unfitted him for heaven. He has trained his powers to war against God; the purity, peace, and harmony of heaven would be to him supreme torture. His accusations against the mercy and justice of God are now silenced. The reproach which he has endeavored to cast upon Jehovah rests wholly upon himself. And now Satan bows down and confesses the justice of his sentence. Story of Redemption, page 427.2
Every
question of truth and error
in the longstanding controversy is
made plain. God's justice stands fully vindicated. Before the whole world is clearly presented the great sacrifice made by the Father and the Son in man's behalf. The hour has come when Christ occupies His rightful position, and is glorified above principalities and powers and every name that is named. Story of Redemption, page 427.3
